Microsoft Teams Advanced
Most people learn Teams by using it, which works fine until the session gets bigger or more formal than a regular meeting. Running a webinar, splitting forty people into working groups, or finding a recording someone needs three months later are all different problems, and none of them are obvious from the interface.
This half-day session covers the features that handle scale: breakout rooms, webinars, and live captions. It also covers the collaborative apps that keep shared work moving, and the rules that govern what a recorded session leaves behind. You’ll finish able to run a structured session end to end and answer for what it produced.
- Run large or structured Teams sessions using breakout rooms, webinars, and live captions, so participation and accessibility hold up as the group grows
- Set up a team’s channels, tabs, and apps so shared work stays findable by someone who wasn’t in the room
- Choose the right collaborative app for a given task, Forms, Whiteboard, Loop, Planner, or Stream, rather than defaulting to chat
- Decide where a recording belongs, who should be able to reach it, and how long it needs to survive, before you start recording
Advanced meeting features
- Breakout rooms: creating, assigning participants, moving between rooms, and closing them
- Webinars: registration forms, presenter controls, and the practical differences from a standard meeting
- Live captions and transcription for accessibility and a searchable record
Channels, tabs, and team settings
- Renaming channels, adding tabs, and using the channel email address
- Managing members, owners, permissions, and team settings
- Adding, configuring, and removing apps
Collaborative apps in the flow of work
- Forms for polls and surveys inside a channel
- Whiteboard and OneNote for brainstorming and shared notes
- Loop components and Planner for lists and tasks that stay current across Microsoft 365
Recordings, retention, and governance
- Where recordings are stored and who can reach them, depending on the meeting type
- Permissions, retention periods, and moving what matters somewhere permanent
- Meeting and webinar etiquette for large groups
This session is for people who already work in Teams regularly and are responsible for meetings or shared spaces that other people depend on. It’s a good fit if:
- You’ve hosted a meeting large enough that the chat got away from you
- You’ve been asked to run something more formal than a meeting and weren’t sure whether a webinar was different
- Someone has asked you for a recording from months ago and you weren’t certain it still existed
Participants should have a basic working knowledge of Microsoft Teams, including meetings, chat, channels, and file sharing.
The advantages of team sessions
